2025 | Session 4

Arrived at the lake at around 7 pm. It was dark, and no one else was there. Went back to Swim 6. I felt that was a good bet with the sun and southeasterly winds we have had.

For the first job, I chucked a lead about to the right of my left-hand hard spot rod a bit further out. Found a nice firm area, so clipped up. Had a few casts around in the zone. One spot was cleaner than the rest, with little to no silkweed, around 8 feet deep. I took note of the spot and put a rig on it. A hinges, stiff rig with 10 baits around it.

The middle rod was on zig again, this time closer in about 8 wraps out in front and adjusted to 3ft below the surface.

The hand rod went on reeds in about 6 feet of water, the same spot as it was two nights previously, again a hinge-stiff rig with 10 baits around.

I prefer to use bottom baits, but with the silkweed everywhere, I feel it’s too risky, and unless I find a clean area that stays clean, hinge stiff rigs with pop-ups will be used.

It was a cold night. I woke up at around 7 am, made coffee, and watched the water. Around 8 am, a fish came out twice over the reed rod. I then saw one come out on the other bank again in front of the reeds. I planned to leave at 9 am, but stayed another hour after seeing the fish show. Nothing happened, another blank.

On reeling in the rig, the new spot on the left-hand rod was clean as a whistle with no silkweed on the rig (a first), and the lead had some clay. The new clear spot and the fish sighting over the reed rod were encouraging.
