Personal Experience Of Using The Fox R-Series Barrow
I have used the Fox R-Series Barrow for a few seasons now. I opted for the R-Series Plus Barrow with the extra-long extending side rails. After a couple of trips, I soon realised I didn’t need the side rails, so I removed them from the barrow and haven’t used them since.
I am, however, primarily a short-session overnight angler and don’t take lots of gear. Anglers who fish longer sessions and take more gear would likely benefit from the side rails, which do help hold everything in place.
I keep my barrow in my shed made up. When I go fishing, I walk the barrow to the boot of my car, take out the barrow bag, and then take the barrow apart.
Dismantling the barrow is a quick and easy process. I undo two thumbscrews that hold the handles in place and remove the handles. Next, the front frame is folded down. Next, the wheel is removed again by undoing two thumb screws. Next, a push pin is pulled, and the back legs are folded. Once dismantled, the barrow easily fits in my car boot.
Once I arrive at the lake, the main frame is pulled out, the boot and back legs are folded up, the wheel is attached, and two thumbscrews are tightened. The handles are slotted in the thumb screw tightened. The barrow bag is dropped in. There are three velcro loops at the bottom of the barrow bag that attach to the frame. I never bother using them.
Next, my bedchair is put on top of the barrow, pushed up against the front frame. My unhooking mat (which also carries my net, sling, waders and water bucket) sits behind the bedchair. My rod bag sits neatly on top. The front frame features a dip to prevent the rod bag from slipping off.
The barrow bag will hold a fair few items. I use it to carry my water, food (I don’t take much, if any, on short overnight sessions), extra clothing, bait pouch, catapult and bait, stove, kettle, gas, mug and bag of rig foam. I carry a backpack on my back. Once set up, I lift the barrow bag out (with all my items in) and place it under my brolly.
The barrow is balanced and easy to push. I like the straight handles, which ensure you don’t have to ‘shrug’ the barrow up, great for those with long arms.

Downsides Of The Fox R-Series Barrow
The tyre has punctured a couple of times, which is very inconvenient. For the first puncture, I repaired the tyre. After the second puncture, I replaced the tyre with this solid, puncture-proof tyre. The barrow works much better with a solid tyre.
The plastic handles can also slide slightly off the metal arms and require gentle pushing back into place. This issue can be solved by glueing.
These are only minor issues. Those buying the barrow can easily and cheaply add a puncture-proof tyre and glue themselves, simple hacks which will make the barrow more reliable.
Summary
I’ve been using the Fox R-Series Plus Barrow for a few seasons now, and it’s become integral to my short overnight sessions. The barrows are quick and easy to set up and dismantle, will fit in all car boots, and the barrow bag will hold a generous amount of items.
I’ve had a couple of minor issues with the tyres and plastic handles, but they are easily fixed.
Overall, I’m happy with the barrow. It’s given me five good seasons of use, and I expect it’ll give me many more.
