Personal Experience Using Ridge Monkey Apex Chod Hooks
My favourite rig is a simple mono-bottom bait rig, which I use for most fishing. When it’s impossible to use a bottom bait, I’ll use a hinge stiff rig or a chod rig if I’m forced to.
I prefer hooks with a straight point and an out-turned eye for all the above rigs, and the ridge Monkey Apex chod hooks fit the bill perfectly. The mono, hinge and chod rigs all sit nicely with these hooks. I use these hooks in a size 5, which come in a neat plastic box with a holder for each hook.
They sharpen very well and stay sharp. I have, however, turned over the points (sharpened) a couple of times while pulling the rig over gravel. The sharpened hooks don’t tend to rust. However, I dip them in vaseline before casting and at the end of a session.
Since using the Ape-X Chod Hooks, I have landed 52 carp, including 27×30 lb plus fish with three over 40 pounds and a handful of Tench. (The majority of these fish were on bottom bait mono rigs) I have never had one open up to me. I have had three hook pulls from the Ape-X Chod Hooks; however, landing 52 carp out of 55 isn’t bad.
